Dark Light Series
The paintings respond to the transition of light throughout the day. From early dawn, the painting is in flux and transition, until the darkness of night places them into the deepest aspect of dark light tonality. The colour then becomes indeterminate and errs towards an object composed gravitationally, affirmatively in situ, with the light of the morning. In this way, the work has the quality of moving through different aspects of itself, and placing them in and out of our awareness. And they do so very gently, often with calm transitions of time. The surface light at different times gradually encourages the viewer’s eye to pick up those nuances and modulations, rhythms, harmonies and layers of light colour.
